"Measles is not a childhood disease that you simply have to overcome for the benefit of the immune system," Thaiss said. The World Health Organization (WHO) has therefore set itself the goal of eradicating the disease. But 95% of the population should be protected. Germany has not yet achieved this goal. . Fear of side effects
The recommendations of the Standing Committee on Immunization could be trusted. "This panel of experts deals extensively with all vaccines and makes a public recommendation only after careful review," said Thaiss. According to studies conducted by the federal agency, about one-third (29%) of the population is afraid of the side effects of vaccination. Others simply do not need to be vaccinated or have their own children vaccinated. About two to four percent of the population is said to be opposed to vaccination. One opponent's argument considers them fatal: A child must be able to endure a disease without vaccination, as this reinforces his defenses.
