If you apply to the presidency of the Christian Democrats, the question of the Chancellor will eventually arise. Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is aware. She expects, however, that Merkel will remain in office until 2021.
The secretary general of the CDU, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, indicated her fundamental willingness to be available for the post of Federal Chancellor. "If you apply for the presidency of the CDU, it is clear that the question of the Chancellor's candidate arises at least," said Kramp-Karrenbauer, the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten".
The politician of the CDU is chaired by former trade union leader Friedrich Merz and federal health minister Jens Spahn for the party presidency. Tonight, they present themselves in North Rhine-Westphalia at the sixth regional party conference. The election will take place on December 7 in Hamburg.
"If you do not want or do not feel confident, keep your hands away from the chair," Kramp-Karrenbauer said. However, she also reiterated the expectation that "the Federal Government will remain in office with Chancellor Merkel until the end of the regular legislative period and will do her job". Kramp-Karrenbauer also said that in the case of her election to the leadership of the party at the CDU party conference in early December, she would work with Merkel "independently and nonetheless confidently".
In terms of content, Kramp-Karrenbauer confirmed his demand for a "major tax reform". On the one hand, it is the taxation of the digital economy and, on the other hand, of the relief for the companies. "Many states have reduced corporate taxes, we must react," said the political leader of the CDU.
She also touched on the topic of cold progression. She wanted to make sure that a salary increase for a skilled worker "the majority in her account" would come back. Finally, the Secretary-General has requested the replacement of the solidarity surcharge without replacement.
