Many people now consider diesel cars to be bad spirits. In its recent issue of the environmental list, the "club of the ecological circulation" however adopts an opposite point of view. Diesel disappears when certain conditions are met.

The Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) has updated its annual purchase recommendation for particularly environmentally friendly cars. As usual, in this "environmental list", especially hybrids, small oil and natural gas and electric vehicles are presented as the most attractive from an environmental point of view. In addition, countless diesel engines are also considered clean, at least if they meet the Euro 6d temp emission standard. If this is not the case, it is strongly discouraged to buy it.

Among the 61 recommendations, there are 22 diesel vehicles, for which the circulation club issues a certificate that is relatively respectful of the environment. Thanks to the strict specifications of the 6d-temp emission standard and an SCR catalytic converter, they are not clean in the laboratory, but also on the road. But above all, these cars are resistant to consumption, like the Peugeot 308 SW Blue HDi 100, which requires only 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers and therefore emits little CO2 harmful to the climate. In addition, the VCD warns against purchasing diesel vehicles that meet only standard 6c. Often, the levels of nitrogen oxides are too high for these, which means that these still available on the market could also be affected by driving bans in the near future.

In addition, the auto club lists 21 gasoline, 8 gasoline hybrids, 7 electric cars, 2 plug-in hybrids and a natural gas car. Also this year, the VCD gives up a ranking. The 62 vehicles listed do not emit more than 135 grams of CO2 per kilometer, which corresponds to a maximum fuel consumption of 5.1 (diesel) or 5.7 liters (gasoline). The lowest CO2 value on the list is the 100 gram VW Eco Up, followed by the Toyota Yaris, Prius and Lexus CT 200h hybrids. The most economical diesel is the Peugeot 208 Blue HDi 100. The electric car with the lowest fuel consumption is the VW E-Up with 11.7 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Electric cars can be green, unlike VCDs. The embarrbading environmental problems are big sedans and SUVs, as well as energy-saving plug-in hybrids, which are often only used on paper. It makes more sense to use small and light vehicles with moderate reach, such as the e.Go Life mini-car announced for 2019.
