Once installed, the Suspicious Site Reporter Chrome extension is placed in the upper right corner between the address bar and the Options menu. You can recognize the add-on on a small flag that turns green or orange depending on the website visited. A number informs you on dubious websites of the number of indicators that advise caution. The site is considered suspicious if at least one of the following cases applies:
- There are unusual characters in the field
- The site is not one of the top 5,000 websites
- You have not visited the site in the last three months
If you encounter a page that you do not like much, you can entrust it to Google to punish the operator. Thus, you also help other users, so that they do not type in a phishing trap. A misleading URL would be, for example, chlp.de instead of chip.de, where the "i" is imitated by a similar "l".
By default, along with the URL, the message sends additional data, including your IP address, to Google. If you wish, you can also deselect other points, for example if you do not want an automatic screen capture to be sent. Click on "Screen Capture" to see what it would look like.
In order for Google to also detect potential badistants from questionable pages, a "referral chain" is usually sent. Here is a list of previously visited pages, links, and redirects that tell you how you ended up on the site. By clicking on the name, you can see this list and delete it from your report with the check box, before sending it via the "Send Report" button.
