C AU / CSU slipped to 29% of voter preference for the first time since 2006, according to a poll. In the "Sunday trend" of the Emnid polling institute for the "Bild am Sonntag", the Union lost a percentage point compared to the previous week. Thus, the Union is as weak as at the beginning of the era of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Merkel officiates since 2005.
The SPD has not been able to benefit from the weakness of the Union and has also lost a point to 18%. The AfD remained unchanged at 15% in third place. Lindner requests a limited term for the Chancellor
The FDP leader, Christian Lindner, accuses Angela Merkel of a political stalemate and therefore calls for a limitation of mandates of Chancellors. "In the meantime, I am in favor of limiting the duration of government in Germany to eight or ten years," Lindner told the newspaper. "Any other head of government would be more progressive than Ms Merkel." It simply has to do with the length of the term.
Lindner pointed out that she had respect for Merkel. However, in the 13th year of her Chancery, she was "politically exhausted". "She dares nothing new." That's why things were "stuck" in German politics. "In this constellation and with this Chancellor, the necessary departure for Germany is not feasible," said Lindner.
