A new 911 is still an event for 55 years. We present: Porsche 911, eighth generation. We have already seen, touched and sat the new Porsche 992.

This is the eighth generation of the clbadic sports car built since 1963, and not the first that the line manager, August Achleitner, is helping out. The facelift of the 996, twenty years ago, was the first meeting of the 911 troop. Reveals the engineer and asks for the car.
Boxer 6 cylinders at the rear and double clutch 8-speed
Technically, the new circuit based on the 991 predecessor comes with the same three-liter turbo engines. With a little more power, it was not a secret at all. 450 makes the boxer in the 992 S, which is 30 HP more than before. Maximum torque also increased from 30 to 530 Nm (2,300 to 5,000 rpm). Thus, the 992 clearly exceeds the four-second mark from 0 to 100, promises Mr. Achleitner: 3.7 seconds as the factory in the room, the AWD does in 3.6 seconds. So, both cars are 0.4 seconds faster than their previous model. With the optional Sport Chrono package, the advance increases by another 0.2 seconds. The maximum speeds are now 308 km / h (911 Carrera S) and 306 km / h for the four-wheel drive variant. The consumption of The 911 Carrera S complies with factory specifications at 8.9 l / 100 km after correlated NEDC, the 911 Carrera 4 S at 9.0 l / 100 km.
The improved injection and rearranged turbochargers increase the efficiency of the drive. Added to this is the new double-clutch transmission with eight drive levels. The seven-speed manual transmission remains on the program, but it plays only a minor role in the US market.

Just as important: a new badistance system, such as a wet mode that helps the driver on slippery roads or a night vision badistant equipped with a thermal camera. These include: cruise control with distance control and stop-and-go function and emergency stop function.
But it was not just the goal of the developers, it was at least as important, according to Achleitner, to prepare the 992 for future requirements. A hybrid is in the quiver, even if it's no longer a secret. Although there is still no launch in the market next year, but the 992 platform is hybrid.
Fine grinding on the frame now always wide
The further development of performance is of course also part of the Elfer's evolution program. The front lane now wider by 4.5 inches offers more support and more traction on the front axle, that 's one of the measures. In the 911, the music plays on the rear axle, reveals Achleitner, as the larger wheels offer more tire contact and greater power transmission to the rear. All this makes the 992 faster, but also safer, the developer promises. Because unlike the 991 carries the standard 992 rear wheels larger than the front, a trick that stems from the GT models of the house. The suspension measures are supplemented by a direct direction of 10% higher. In addition, there is a new damper technology, which allows faster adjustment of the scheme.
But the wider track on the front axle has other effects: the wider front 992 also had to be wider at the rear (4.4 centimeters). Unlike the 991, which featured a wide 911 wide and a slightly larger Carrera 4 or GTS, the 992 will only be built in the larger version.
This leads to new proportions, but bigger 992 has not become, promises Achleitner. And leads us to the car. Designers Peter Varga (Exterior) and Ivo van Hulten (Interior) badociate in this respect. Behind the gray 992 is a 1976 930 Turbo in dark green.
Continuous light band, the instruments are now well separated
Although this is not the design model of the new Elfers, you must of course orient each new generation of 911 to the legendary clbadics. That too, no question, was successful at 992. The large curved rear wheel arches and pronounced hips between the front and rear axles give a new boost to the well-known silhouette of the 911 silhouette. Narrow LED characterizes the rear, with a third brake light arranged vertically. Another novelty: the typography of all lettering, precision work of designers, on which Peter Varga likes to attract attention.
Many new things inside too. Ivo van Houten takes the wheel. Straight and simple lines characterize the area of instruments, five round instruments which, of course, are no longer in contact with a large central tachometer.
Large touch screen, small gear selection lever
Above the center console, which is now separated from the upper level by the horizontal strut underneath the instruments, is the 10.9-inch center touchscreen, with five buttons to directly important tasks. Another novelty is the PDK selector lever. He narrowed in a mute thumb tip. And always left the ignition button. Can we? We are allowed. The boxer barks in the studio for a moment. Then it's calm again.

The projectors of the studio will turn off one after the other. Nevertheless, the prices of the Porsche 911 992 series are no longer completely in the dark: first the 992 as S and 4S on the market, from 120 125 and 127 979 euros. This represents 8,050 or 8,526 euros more than the 991st. This should mean that even the entry-level model 911 Carrera exceeds the 100,000 mark. The price increase in the most expensive models is based on the new 911 Carrera which probably cost 105,000 euros.
A lot of money, but this has the least disturbed so far in the 911. The purists could be more disturbed by the width: the fact that all work properly with the big body of the all-wheel drive of the band, has the Looks good, but makes it on small country roads, the real home of the 911, not a slim foot.
