Deutsche Bahn suffered a sharp drop in profits in the first half of the year. Net income remained at 562 million euros, down nearly 28% from the first half of 2017, as the company announced Wednesday in Berlin

The turnover, however, has developed positively, as announced the director of the Bahn, Richard Lutz. It increased in the first half of 2.3% to 21.5 billion euros. The group anticipates for the whole year a sales increase of about 44 billion euros.

The number of pbadengers in long-distance traffic continues to rise and reaches a new record, as the railway announces. From January to the end of June, 70.9 million people use the railways, which is 3.8% more than during the same period of the previous year.

"People are more mobile than ever," says group CEO Lutz. The railroad is for ever more citizens the key to a successful climate change and transportation.

Last year, the railway had achieved a net profit of 765 million euros. The turnover was slightly lower at 43 billion euros.
