Harmful bacteria in the frozen vegetable mix

The consumer protection portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de" of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety is currently warning against harmful bacteria in a frozen vegetable mix sold by Lidl. The Belgian company Greenyard Frozen Belgium N.V. has issued a recall for the product "Freshona Vegetable Mix" in the package of 1000 grams. According to the manufacturer, Listeria monocytogenes bacteria may be present in vegetables. Deaths have also been reported. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is currently warning against frozen vegetables as a likely trigger.

The product was sold nationwide to the Lidl supermarket chain. Among other things, the bacteria can cause nausea and vomiting. For the purpose of consumer preventive protection, the manufacturer recalls the product regardless of the expiry date. Lidl Germany also reacted immediately and removed the product concerned from the sale. Buyers can return the vegetable mix to each Lidl store. The purchase price will also be refunded without presentation of the receipt.

What products are affected?

According to the manufacturer, only the "Freshona vegetable mix" in the 1000 gram packaging is affected. However, with all the best dates already produced. Lidl and Greenyard Frozen Belgium N.V. emphasize that only this article is concerned. Other frozen products sold by Lidl Deutschland and other products of the Freshona brand and other manufacturers are not concerned

What are the health risks after ingestion?

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious gastrointestinal illness (listeriosis) with flu-like symptoms. Especially with the elderly, young children and pregnant women as well as immunocompromised people with severe illness courses can develop.
