Ross Edgley left on June 1 at Margate Beach, in the south-east of the UK, becoming the first human to swim around the island completely. On Sunday, he reached Margate again – and thus achieved his goal. Edgley, 33, managed the 2883-kilometer route in 157 days.

In planning, he was expecting about 100 days instead of 157. The strong waves, currents, cold weather and 37 encounters with jellyfish made the record attempt difficult. Edgley swam clockwise 24 hours a day in the UK, sleeping on a companion boat. He has eaten more than 500 bananas in total, according to the BBC.

On Sunday, after five months on the ground, he was back on the ground for the first time, greeting his family and hundreds of spectators on the beach, saying, "I'm sorry, I'm too late." The happy swimmer told the British media that he was shaking very hard and was suffering from shoulder pains.

With his swimming tour, the 33-year-old will likely be an entry into the Guinness Book of Records – that would be according to his third. In 2016, he completed a marathon and shot a small car behind him. In addition, he climbed the ropes until he reached the height of Mount Everest (8848 meters) after 19 hours.
