Report against Mayor Boris Palmer on coercion

An argument with a student complained to the Lord Mayor of Tübingen. Boris Palmer had faced the 33-year-old – and saw himself in the right.

The quarrel between a student and the mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer (Greens), goes straight to the point. A fellow student has now posted Palmer because of the restraint, said a police spokesman. As a result, the Kriminalpolizei supports the investigation. This is the normal procedure when an official is involved, said the spokesman.

In mid-November, Palmer had a clash with the student in central Tübingen late in the evening. According to the mayor, the man would have insulted him. When Palmer questioned him, he would have behaved strongly and aggressively toward the mayor. Due to the disruption of sleep, Palmer then wanted to record the student's personal details.

The 33-year-old said Palmer ran after him and his mate and harbaded them. After he did not want to identify, Palmer began photographing both.

"Very disturbing and unpleasant"

The 32-year-old companion said that she had agreed in advance with the student of advertising. "If it had not been Boris Palmer, I would have called the police that night." For her, the meeting was very disturbing and unpleasant. "I should have pushed him back to escape the situation."

Palmer calmly responded to the announcement. According to him, it is based on a false badessment of the legal situation: unlike a private person, the student and his companion had to identify with him because he was at the head of the municipal security service, did he declare. "I could even use physical restraint, which I gave up of course."

Jurgen Jürgen Fleckenstein sees Palmer on the right. "A mayor is at the head of the local police department," said the city law professor at Kehl University. Palmer himself entrusted the case to the Public Order Office. Due to disturbances of peace and refusal to identify oneself, the student must pay a fine.
