N New York (dpa) – Tens of thousands of documents containing sensitive data from major automakers appeared on the Internet temporarily, according to a newspaper article. The 157-gigabyte data leak was discovered this month by a security researcher and hit heavyweights in the industry like Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Ford, Fiat Chrysler, and Tesla, wrote the New York Times "Friday in its online edition. The data relate to technical information about production processes – sometimes well-kept business secrets. Contracts, work schedules and even confidentiality obligations have also been included. In total, close to 47,000 cases from more than 100 companies dealt with the Canadian small business Level One Robotics and Controls.
According to the report, it is not clear if unauthorized persons read information, including digitized data. Driving license and pbadports contained, seen or downloaded. The researcher, who discovered the data on a backup server, informed the companies last week. Then the material was removed from the network.
