The US startup Rivian Automotive has recently launched the all-electric pickup R1T. Another model has just been unveiled: the R1S SUV. R1T and R1S share a skateboard platform specifically designed for electric cars. Like the pickup, the R1S SUV is offered with batteries with a maximum capacity of 180 kWh. It is charged up to 160 kW of electricity; electricity for 320 kilometers must be connected after 30 minutes.
The R1S and R1T are driven by four-wheel drive consisting of four electric motors of 147 kW (200 hp) with a depth of wood pbadage of up to one meter. Depending on the variant of the battery, the power of the system varies from 300 kW (408 hp) to 522 kW (710 hp). It should go from zero to one hundred in three seconds maximum. The architecture of the skateboard includes the battery pack, the drive unit, the landing gear, the brakes and the thermal management. The space above is thus almost entirely available for the transport of pbadengers and luggage.
The R1S is almost 400 millimeters shorter and slightly higher than the R1T. The trailer load of the R1S decreases by 3,500 kg with a decrease of 30% compared to the R1T, the volume of the boot is identical to 330 liters. The R1S can carry up to seven people with multiple touch screens, plenty of connectivity and fast internet access – the pickup can only accommodate five pbadengers.
Due to its low center of gravity, Rivian promises high stability and high driving dynamics for its high performance Stromer. The height-adjustable frame is designed to offer great flexibility regardless of the location. The delivered vehicles are factory-equipped with advanced support systems and equipment for autonomous driving functions.
The base price of the Rivian R1S is $ 72,500 before taxes (about € 64,000), which is $ 3,500 more than the R1T. Production of the first two jobs is expected to start from the end of 2020, with orders for fully equipped vehicles initially preferred. Reservations are now possible for a $ 1000 deposit. If and when the R1S and R1T arrive in Europe, it is always open.
