It looks like an action game, but what happens Friday morning in the center of Berlin is a difficult criminal case: it is 7:30 am when Schillingstraße is near Alexanderplatz, two black vehicles, an Audi and a Mercedes, Force to stop. A car stops in front of the van, one behind. Several masked men make their way to the sprinter, threatening the occupants of the van, smashing the back door and looting money. All this takes only a few moments, the witnesses observe the process.
Then, the authors flee their vehicles towards Kreuzberg. They are soon followed by a police car. Whether on site or alarmed, the police do not know Friday afternoon. The leak, however, is always faster. In Wallstrbade, the attackers have already hit several cars. In Neue Grünstraße, they even give at least one shot to the police.
Offenders had to change evacuation car
The emergency vehicle is struck in the engine, the police are not injured. However, they must abandon the persecution. Nevertheless, the perpetrators continue their escape at high speed in the narrow streets – in the middle of suburban traffic. In the Feilnerstraße in Kreuzberg, the driver of the Mercedes finally loses control of the event and causes an accident with an uninvolved vehicle.
The frame of the Mercedes bends so hard that the right front wheel is blocked. The masked men get into the second car and go to Lindenstraße, where their track is lost. Even the use of a police helicopter is unsuccessful. A trail of destruction remains in the middle of the city.
Two hours later, two older ladies sit in a bistro and drink coffee at the crime scene in Schillingstrbade. It's just around the corner. "We heard a helicopter turn this morning and we wondered," one of them said. She did not hear any shots. "Something like that never happened here," she said, sounding excited. "The criminals were smart," says the owner of the bistro. "There are no cameras here." In fact, the place is a bit run down. In a small forest right next to the crime scene, a homeless camp. There is rubbish on the floor, it smells of faeces. On the opposite side is built. Seven cranes are located in the area adjacent to the Alexa shopping center. They are dominated by the television tower.
"You are already in shock"
Police spokesman Stefan Petersen told the local press that the investigators still had no trace. Dozens of witnesses observed the theft and pursuit. Police are asking for help and is setting up a morning platform where witnesses can upload photos and videos of the event.
Two eyewitnesses are still in the morning at New Greenway, where shots were fired at the police car. A 27-year-old man, who does not want to be named, tells how the two evacuation vehicles in the narrow street approached him before going to work. "They ran towards me and did not dodge, behind them the police car, on which they fired a shot." He had quickly returned his service car in working order, but He had driven against a pillar. "You're in shock, after all, everything went well." The second eyewitness, a 57-year-old construction worker, who also prefers to remain anonymous, observed the perpetrators of the attack at Wall Street. "They were so fast, it was amazing, the police barely followed them," he says.
Berlin is the leader of the raids on the money carriers
Benjamin Jendro of the Police Union expects professionals in terms of equipment and approach. "We can badume that the authors belong to the field of organized crime," he said. What about members of Arab clans, he doubts it. Jendro could also have talked about rock bands or the Russian mafia: "They all need money to fight organized crime." He does not want to criticize the police. "The police can not just heat the city," he says. We had to weigh the risk.
Berlin, however, is the sad leader of the raids on money transport. Silke Wollmann, spokesperson for the Federal Association of Security Companies, explains: "The density of shops and vehicles is just higher here than in Buxtehude." Due to strict safety regulations, the international comparison is not so bad. "However, if, as in this case, heavy firefighter equipment is moved, nothing can be done." The safest way to allow employees to stay in the van, unless they are forced to disembark. "But as Alex has to go fast in broad daylight," says Wollmann, "I suspect the authors will not have devoted a lot of attention to the victims."
Beagle detects a bad track
The Berlin police stepped up investigations on Friday afternoon. In the Feilnerstraße, where the Mercedes is demolished, dogs are also used. When a dog suddenly feels a trail, the Lindenstraße is closed. Ten forces with machine guns follow the dog, followed by the press. After a few hundred meters, the dog stops next to a Portuguese supermarket in Markgrafenstraße. Emergency services change the building, pbadersby are hunted under the threat of weapons. Few minutes of excitement. Then the dog trots. There is still no trace.
