The long-awaited statement by Horst Seehofer at the end of his term as head of the CSU was brief and concise: it is a written statement containing only a few sentences. Seehofer announces that he will take office as party leader on 19 January 2019 on a special day. "The year 2019 should be the year of renewal of the CSU," said the 69-year-old player.

Söder thanks Seehofer
Markus Söder is the favorite of Seehofer's successor at CSU. Several district leaders of CSU have already said that the Prime Minister also badumed the presidency of the party. Another possible candidate, CSU Vice President Manfred Weber, is traded.
Söder himself tweeted: "Respect for the decision of Horst Seehofer." As president, he had resumed the party in difficult times and had conducted it with dedication for ten years. Merkel praises the cooperation
The head of the CSU parliamentary group, Thomas Kreuzer, paid tribute to Seehofer for his decision to withdraw. "He's doing a good job of giving CSU a fresh start," said Kreuzer. Seehofer has a lasting share in the success of the CSU. CSU General Secretary Markus Blume also praised the achievements of Seehofer.
