Due to the suspicion of explosives in a car, a roadside stop on the Autobahn 3 near Aschaffenburg was temporarily closed Sunday night. At around 10:15 pm, the police gave the go-ahead – no explosives were found.
Previously, the Spessart-Süd service station had been cleaned and the area had been cordoned off. An inmate of the car had been arrested because of a European arrest warrant, police said in the evening.
At a check Sunday afternoon, the police had checked the vehicle in the area of the rest area and found that the arrest warrant had been awarded to the detainee. "We also took a closer look at the vehicle and found indications that there may have been explosives in the vehicle," said Police Superintendent Björn Schmitt
Three Other Detainees Arrested
The vehicle was also taken into custody at night. Why the detainee is wanted internationally was not clear. In addition, from where the occupants of the car come, the police did not provide any information. "We can give for informational tactical reasons, without more information," Schmitt said.
In the meantime, it can not be excluded that the A3 is blocked. "The A3 was not affected during the entire mission," said Schmitt after the clear. "We badume that locking measures in the area of the rest area can still be lifted during the evening."
The operation was under the direction of the Traffic Police Aschaffenburg Hoesbach inspection. They were supported by specialists from the Criminal Investigation Office of the State of Bavaria and the Bavarian riot police forces.
