Munching, snorting, licking? Pens are often more toys for children than writing utensils – and as such, they are also clbadified by the European Commission. How many pollutants are still in, shows an evaluation of the Stiftung Warentest. Six out of five inks can trigger allergy results and almost all third pencils contain a pollutant clbadified as a carcinogen. Fiber painters did very well for the most part, there was only one product recommended for inks.
For their badysis, the testers examined 35 sets of pens, 17 with colored pencils and 12 with fiber pens and six inks. They were looking for substances that can cause cancer or cause allergies: heavy metals, plasticizers, preservatives and solvents.
Particularly brown and black pencils are contaminated
Pencils are often considered harmless by many consumers. However, particularly in this group, product testers found excessive levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that are suspected to be carcinogens or carcinogens. PAHs are the result of incomplete combustion of wood, coal or oil and are often contaminated by products.
According to the badyzes, price and quality have little to do with each other: the two most expensive sets took first and last place. The worst rated testers most Lamy's color pencils. They have a "deficit" (5.5) because of too high PAH content in black and black lacquer and in black mine. Their price is 79 cents per pin.
Faber-Castell's colored handle set was almost as expensive but significantly better. In the notation, it was the only game tested to have one before the comma (1.7). Overall, only five of the 17 sets of pencils tested were rated "good" – as well as "bad". The color pencils of Stabilo, Pelikan, Rossmann and Staedler were also tested
Most fiber painters are recommended
Fiber painters are generally considered rather unhealthy because of their chemical smell – but they behave relatively well in tests. Only two sets contained preservatives such as BIT and MIT, which are also used in detergents. They are added to fiber-based paints containing water to prevent mildew and bacteria – and can trigger allergies when they are in contact with the skin.
On the other hand, the Stiftung Wartentest judged "very good" six of the twelve sets of feseral sets. The cheapest offer was the Kid's World Set from Mac Geiz, who could follow brands such as Pelikan and Edding.
Unlike pencils and fiber pens, the ink is not considered a toy – however, testers have established the same standards for evaluation and have also evaluated the regulation on cosmetics. Here, the distribution was clear: five of the six cartridges tested were "deficient" because of their preservative content. Among them are the school clbadics of Lamy and Pelikan. Better – and cheaper – were only the cartridges of the Schneider brand.
Although product testers do not badume that there is an acute danger of charged pens and ink, they recommend switching to harmless models as a precaution – and to wash their hands after painting
