The end of an era: the Cebit will no longer take place.
The largest computer show in the world, Cebit, takes place in Hanover. That's what the organizer Deutsche Messe AG, according to information from the NDR. At the time, this is communicated at a staff meeting. This is due to economic reasons and the decline in the number of visitors in recent years. The end of Cebit also has consequences for the staff, as reported by NDR 1 Niedersachsen. Oliver Frese, director of the exhibition and Cebit CEO, will retire at the end of the year. The Cebit independent computer show has been around since 1986.
The concept of the festival did not work
While in 2001, 800,000 people came to Cebit on the fairground, this summer it was only 120,000. The Cebit had already tried to reinvent itself as "the first digital event." "in Europe: the show has been moved from spring to summer and is expected to attract more people with a festival character again. The Ferris wheel, the attractions, the pop concerts and the discussions could not stop the decline in the number of visitors.
"Hit the office for the location of the company"
Volker Schmidt, managing director of Verband Niedersachsen Metall, seems shocked by a first reaction. Schmidt speaks of a hard blow taken to the office for the entire Niedersachsen business district.
Cebit: from the show to the festival
-
From the point of view of many visitors, it is the focus of the new show: the giant wheel of a major German software manufacturer revolves around the outside.
-
Just below him on Wednesday night, he committed his mischief: Jan Delay makes the scene vibrate and many people in costume are rock.
-
The idea of making festival visitors a festival screen is really attractive.
-
Of course, in many exhibition halls, there are also fairly traditional stands, with flyers and new concepts. At least the English terms are an indication of modernity.
-
And he too is part of the guests: Spotmini, the four-foot robot, brings to his owner a glbad of water, can go up and down the stairs and control the premises of the company.
-
After all, modern technology is also perceived by Cebit visitors when they observe the night sky. Every night, an armada of drones is choreographed by a major chip maker for a light show. All visitors then pull their cell phones – and can hardly escape the show.
