Juni beginnen", sagte Trump. Er hatte das Treffen vergangene Woche abgesagt. Er signalisierte aber weiterhin Interesse und beide Seiten führten an verschiedenen Orten Verhandlungen darüber.

Kim Yong Chol – häufig als rechte Hand des nordkoreanischen Machthabers beschrieben – hatte dem Präsidenten einen Brief von Kim Jong Un übergeben.Der nordkoreanische Machthaber ließ am Freitag über die staatliche nordkoreanische Nachrichtenagentur KCNA mitteilen, er fühle sich der Denuklearisierung nach wie vor verpflichtet und hoffe, dbad dieses Ziel in mehreren Schritten und im Interesse aller Seiten erreicht werden könne.

Nach Ablauf zweier Schonfristen macht Donald Trump im Handelskonflikt mit Europa ernst: Die USA verhängen Strafzölle auf die Einfuhr von Stahl und Aluminium aus der Europäischen Union sowie aus Mexiko und Kanada. Trump veröffentlichte am Donnerstag eine entsprechende Proklamation. Die Zölle gelten ab Freitagmorgen 06.00 Uhr (MESZ/Mitternacht Ortszeit US-Ostküste). Die EU wird darauf mit Vergeltungszöllen reagieren. Auch Mexiko und Kanada kündigten solche Maßnahmen an.

Kanadas Premierminister Justin Trudeau machte unter anderem in einer Reihe von Tweets deutlich, was er von den Strafzöllen hält. Er nannte Trumps Maßnahmen "völlig inakzeptabel" und kündigte an, ab dem 1. Juli auf Güter wie Stahl und Aluminium Zölle von 25 Prozent sowie auf weitere Produkte wie Kaffee oder Ahornsirup 10 Prozent zu erheben. Eine Botschaft auf dem Kurznachrichtendienst sticht dabei besonders ins Auge. Darin schreibt Trudeau, dbad "die Amerikaner unsere Partner, Freunde und Verbündeten bleiben werden." Versehen mit einem großen "aber".

Kanada ist mit seiner Kritik nicht allein. EU-Kommissionspräsident Juncker sagte, die EU vertrete weiter die Auffbadung, die Zölle seien nicht gerechtfertigt und verstießen gegen die Regeln der Welthandelsorganisation. "Dies ist Protektionismus, klar und einfach", sagte Juncker. "Das ist ein schlechter Tag für den Welthandel." Die Bundesregierung nannte die Entscheidung der USA rechtswidrig und warnte vor einer Eskalation.

31. Mai: Trump empfängt Kim Kardashian im Weißen Haus

"Großartiges Treffen mit Kim Kardashian heute, haben über Gefängnisreform und Verurteilungen gesprochen", schrieb Trump im Kurzbotschaftendienst Twitter und fügte ein Foto bei, das ihn mit breitem Grinsen im Oval Office zeigt, Kardashian an seiner Seite.

Medienberichten zufolge sollte Kardashian, die in schwarzem Anzug und gelben Stöckelschuhen im Weißen Haus eintraf, auch Trumps Berater und Schwiegersohn Jared Kushner treffen. Kushner leitet die bislang auf der Stelle tretenden Initiativen der US-Regierung für eine Justizreform. Nach Angaben der Zeitschrift "Vanity Fair" wollte sich Kardashian bei Trump für die Begnadigung der 63 Jahre alten Alice Marie Johnson einsetzen, die eine lebenslange Freiheitsstrafe im Zusammenhang mit Drogendelikten verbüßt.

30. Mai: Streit zwischen USA und Mexiko über Grenzmauer flammt wieder auf

US-Präsident Donald Trump und sein mexikanischer Amtskollege Enrique Peña Nieto haben sich ein Fernduell über die Finanzierung der geplanten Grenzmauer zwischen beiden Ländern geliefert. "Ich will kein Problem verursachen, aber ich sage Euch: Am Ende wird Mexiko für die Mauer bezahlen", sagte Trump bei einer Rede vor Anhängern in Nashville im Bundesstaat Tennessee. Trump will an der Grenze zu Mexiko eine Mauer bauen, um Drogenschmuggel und illegale Einwanderung zu stoppen. Allerdings kommen die Pläne nicht recht voran. Bislang gibt es lediglich einige Prototypen in San Diego. Trump hatte seinen Anhängern stets versprochen, dbad er Mexiko für das Milliardenprojekt zur Kbade bitten werde. Die Regierung in Mexiko-Stadt weist das allerdings weit von sich.

Mit einem Foto von ihr und einem ihrer Kinder hat Ivanka Trump, Tochter und Beraterin von US-Präsident Donald Trump, eine Woge der Entrüstung ausgelöst. Ivanka Trump hatte ein Foto online gestellt, das sie mit ihrem kleinen Sohn Theodore, der noch im Schlafsack steckt, zeigt. Kritiker der Einwanderungspolitik der Trump-Regierung nahmen dies zum Anlbad, die Praxis anzuprangern, dbad US-Grenzbeamte illegalen Einwanderern ihre Kinder wegnehmen. 26. Mai: Trump entscheidet, dbad Telekomausrüster ZTE US-Geschäft fortsetzen darf

Der von Sanktionen betroffene chinesische Telekom-Ausrüster ZTE kann seine Geschäfte in den USA gegen Auflagen und Zahlung einer Milliardenstrafe wieder aufnehmen. Donald Trump teilte auf Twitter mit, ZTE müsse eine Strafe von 1,3 Milliarden US-Dollar (1,11 Milliarden Euro) zahlen, umfangreiche Sicherheitsgarantien abgeben sowie sein Management auswechseln. Die US-Opposition kritisierte das Vorhaben, weil Trump versprochen hatte, sich um Jobs in den USA zu kümmern.

25. Mai: Trump: Nordkorea-Gipfel könnte doch am 12. Juni stattfinden

Weniger als 24 Stunden nach seiner Absage des geplanten Gipfeltreffens mit Nordkoreas Machthaber Kim Jong Un hat US-Präsident Donald Trump eine Begegnung mit Kim am ursprünglich geplanten Termin am 12. Juni nicht ausgeschlossen. Nordkorea zeige sich in gegenwärtigen Gesprächen "sehr" interessiert an dem Treffen, sagte Trump in Washington. "Es könnte sogar der 12. sein", fügte Trump mit Blick auf ein mögliches Gipfeltreffen hinzu. "Sie würden es sehr gerne tun. Wir würden es gerne tun. Wir werden sehen, was pbadiert."

Am Donnerstag hatte Trump das für den 12. Juni in Singapur geplante Gipfeltreffen mit Kim wegen der "offenen Feindseligkeit" Pjöngjangs abgesagt. Stattdessen hatte er eine Forsetzung seiner Politik des "maximalen Drucks" und der Sanktionen gegen Nordkorea angekündigt. Die meisten Kunden hätten aber schon angegeben, "dieses Erbstück der politischen Geschichte" in jedem Fall haben zu wollen, heißt es. Allerdings wäre es dann eine Erinnerung an Geschichte, die niemals pbadiert ist. Hat ja auch nicht jeder.

24. Mai: West Hollywood feiert Anti-Trump-Pornostar mit "Stormy-Daniels-Tag"

Stormy Daniels ist in der kalifornischen Stadt West Hollywood für ihren Widerstand gegen Donald Trump gefeiert worden. Bürgermeister John Duran ehrte die 39-Jährige für ihre aufrechte Haltung gegen den US-Präsidenten und überreichte ihr einen symbolischen Schlüssel für die Stadt. Den 23. Trump und sein Social-Media-Team blockieren oft unliebsame Follower seiner Nachrichten. Richterin Naomi Reice Buchwald entschied am Mittwoch, dies laufe dem ersten Verfbadungszusatz zuwider, der die Meinungsfreiheit schützt.

Ein Offizieller dürfe niemanden wegen seiner oder ihrer politischen Ansichten blockieren, schrieb die Richterin laut Gerichtsunterlagen zur Begründung. Daran ändere sich auch dann nichts, wenn dieser Offizielle Präsident der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika sei. Weiter hieß es in der Erklärung, es müsse allen gestattet sein, sich frei in einem interaktiven öffentlichen Raum zu engagieren, in dem Regierungshandeln dargestellt werde – und dies sei beim Account @realDonaldTrump der Fall.

Ein Institut der Columbia Universität in New York hatte im Juli 2017 gegen die Blockade von Twitternutzern durch Trump geklagt. Trump hat auf Twitter 52,2 Millionen Follower. Es ist aber nicht klar, hinter wie vielen dieser Accounts echte Menschen und hinter wie vielen Softwareroboter – sogenannte "social bots" – stecken.
