"The report of the maid": Margaret Atwood announces the continuation of the book

"The Maid Report" continues: 33 years after the publication of her dystopian success story, Margaret Atwood has announced the publication of a second volume for the coming year. "The Wills" would begin 15 years after the acts of the first book and count three female characters as storytellers.

In "The Maid's Report" (original title: "The Handmaid's Tale"), Atwood conceives a totalitarian society called Gilead, in which women are completely subject to men. In the fictitious country, which has taken the place of the United States, infertility reigns largely, which is why the few remaining fertile women are used as Gebärsklavinnen.

The book was an international best-seller at the time of its publication in 1985. The series adaptation of 2016, several times award-winning, drew attention to the novel and its author, especially because many observers have recognized a scenario that the United States could approach under President Donald Trump, known for his badism and misogyny.

The dark red dresses of maids popularized with the series have since been regularly seen in anti-Trump demos. In the red fir trees, which Melania, Trump's wife, had recently installed at the White House, some have again recognized the dress.

For the reason she wrote a sequel after so long, Margaret Atwood announced via Twitter that she had moved many of her readers' questions to the original text – and "the world we live in".

"The Testaments" is expected to appear in North America in September 2019. While the season's first season fits the events of the book, she told them independently the second season. A third season is also planned for 2019.
