By genetic badysis, the investigators want to know if they are the remains of missing girls from 1983 in Rome, Emanuela Orlandi and Mirella Gregori. Until now, there is no reliable information on the possible date of death of the deceased or persons or on bad. A comparison of DNA with the genetic material of the two missing girls lasts, takes according to the expert opinion of seven to nine days.
Why did Emanuela disappear?
The disappearance of Emanuela has been fueled by speculation for decades: it has been speculated that the mafia, secret services or organizations that wanted to kill the pope could be behind it.
The daughter of a 15-year-old Vatican police officer did not return home after music lessons on June 22, 1983. One of the theses is that she was was kidnapped by members of a criminal organization to put pressure on the Vatican officials to repay money borrowed. According to another theory, Emanuela was reportedly kidnapped to force the release of Turkish Mehmet Ali Agca, who murdered Pope John Paul II in 1981.
Emanuela's brother, Pietro, has been asking for more thorough investigation of his sister's fate for years and accuses the Vatican of trying to hide it. The Vatican has repeatedly worked closely with the investigators. According to the media, he wants to meet the prosecutor.
A lawyer asks for more detailed information
Family rights lawyer Laura Sgro on Wednesday urged prosecutors and the Vatican to provide more information on bones. She asks the prosecution and the Vatican to clarify the exact circumstances in which the bones were found and their connection with the disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi or Mirella Gregori.
The Vatican's previous statement provides "little information," she criticized. The family will not comment until there are no DNA tests. In his statement, the Vatican did not mention the names of the two missing youths.
The building where the bones were found was donated to the Vatican in 1949 by a Jewish businessman converted to the Catholic religion. Before the coming into force of the racial laws, this man was a member of the fascist party. According to the newspaper "La Repubblica", construction workers found an almost complete skeleton and fragments of bone elsewhere.
Mirella disappeared just before Emanuela
This is not the first time that the Italian police are investigating a possible trail leading to the Orlandi Corps. In 2012, forensic scientists exhumed the grave of a notorious criminal in a Vatican church. They contained 400 bone boxes. However, the DNA tests did not match.
In addition, various references from citizens who wanted to see Orlandi alive proved to be wrong over the years. Orlandi would be 50 years old now.
Mirella Gregori had disappeared 40 days before Orlandi. According to his mother, the 16-year-old girl had told her parents, after a conversation via the intercom, that a school friend wanted to talk to him briefly. She just went out quickly. She never came back. The investigators do not exclude a link between the two missing persons cases.
