B erlin / Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Verdi union called employees of the supermarket chain Real on Friday to strike. In the south-west, Verdi is expecting around 500 participants in two rallies in Böblingen and Ettlingen. The company operates in Baden-Wuerttemberg 24.
"We are fighting for wages, from which one can live," said Stefanie Nutzberger, member of Verdi's Federal Executive in Berlin. The context of the call is management's decision to pay newly hired employees under a collective agreement with the DHV union, which is much cheaper for the company than the collective agreement with Verdi. The decision means an average of 23% less money for those affected, Nutzberger said.
The boss of Metro's parent company, Olaf Koch, accuses the union of banning collective bargaining over a competitive pay structure in the supermarket chain. The previous collective agreements would have charged Real significantly higher labor costs than they would have to bear for many competitors. This was no longer acceptable for the chain.
