Vienna: Unknown steals paintings from Renoir at Dorotheum

Before an auction at the Vienna Dorotheum, an artwork by the French impressionist Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) had been stolen. The police are looking for three suspects. They would have stolen the painting titled "Gulf, Sea, Green Cliff" on Monday night in the preview rooms. The work of 27 meters by 40, dating from 1895, shows a coastal landscape. It is estimated between 120,000 and 160,000 euros.

According to the police, the thieves were deliberately rendered to the painting on the second floor of the building and had left the frame or cut it off. The men left the Dorotheum by three different issues. On a surveillance camera, photos of alleged perpetrators could be badured.

The auction of works of clbadical modernism, scheduled for Wednesday night, was to gather about 250 paintings, drawings and sculptures. The Dorotheum is one of the leading auction houses in Europe.
