Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – A truck pushed four cars against each other in an accident on the busy Highway 3 near Frankfurt, thus causing permanent congestion. The driver of the first car in front of the truck, 50, was seriously injured, police said Friday night. A helicopter took him to the Frankfurt hospital. A 29-year-old man and two women aged 55 and 50 were injured easily. The police had first talked about three cars involved and only one slightly injured, and then corrected their information.
The 50-year-old driver was at 1:30 pm with his car on the hard shoulder between the Obertshausen junctions and Hanau towards Würzburg on the road. The next 44-year-old truck driver responded to the suspected police force too late and drove his 40-tonne vehicle to the car. The truck pushed it into three more cars in front.
The highway was filled for about an hour and a half and remained partially closed until the evening. It was a traffic jam of several kilometers. The police estimate the damage at around 100,000 euros.
