A 24-year-old man who had jumped in front of a suburban train in Wuppertal with a foreign child must be hospitalized in psychiatry. It was clear that "a common danger for an indefinite period" was present, the district court justified its verdict.
In mid-April, the Indian woman seized her five-year-old son in a Wuppertal station in front of terrified parents and suddenly jumped in front of a train. At the beginning of the trial, the man had confessed to the crime.
An examiner diagnosed schizophrenia in the accused. The expert had reported in court, the man who wanted to hear several voices and a ghost wanted to make a sacrifice. The child should therefore be "a substitute for a lamb". This had been his essential motivation for the act. The accused, however, denied having made such a statement.
The 23-year-old boy survived almost unscathed at the track jump. According to the prosecution, this was due to a happy coincidence and the only driver of the locomotive. If the train had moved a little further, it could have hit a lower part. However, the five-year-old will begin treatment for trauma, the judge said. "The family continues to suffer the consequences of the crime."
