Gerry Marsden, the lead singer and namesake of the 1960s British rock band Gerry and the Pacemakers has died.

The band was part of the ‘British Invasion’ of the 1960s … a constant stream of British rock bands led by The Beatles to overtake music in America and the world.

The band scored big with their hit, “Ferry Cross the Mersey”, which made them instant stars in America.

There were also other successes. Their song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” has been an anthem for Liverpool football fans for many decades.

And there were funny songs, like “How You Do It?” which also became a big hit.

Gerry toured for 60 years … never really stopping.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Pauline Marsden, to whom he had been married for 55 years, and two daughters, Yvette and Victoria.

Gerry was 78 years old.
