Get an extra year of repairs for your old MacBook screen

Apple is extending eligibility for free repairs for several older MacBook models with known screen issues.

First, Apple extended the 13-inch MacBook Pro ‘s Backlight service program one year. The program offers free repairs for certain 2016, 2017, and 2018 MacBook Pros with backlight malfunctions. The program began in May 2019 and Apple has extended the eligibility period for free repairs to five years from first retail sale, or three years from the start of the repair program, whichever is longer. This means that customers now have until at least May 2022 to have the backlight on their old MacBook Pro replaced.

The other expansion is for the anti-reflective coating repair feature for 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro with Retina displays (12-inch variants released in 2016 and 2017). This issue has been around for nearly nine years, but Apple started offering free repairs to affected customers in 2015, then extended coverage in 2017. If the backlight on your old 13-inch MacBook Pro is not working properly, or if the anti-reflective coating on your 12-inch MacBook or MacBook Pro is damaged, you can submit a claim through the Apple Support website to begin the process. repair. Note that all 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pros should be sent to Apple’s Support Center even if you take them to a store in person, so repairs for these models will take longer. MacRumors estimates that it may take up to a week for your MacBook to recover after shipment.

You can also request a reimbursement for the cost of repairs if you have already paid to fix any of these issues. To be eligible, your MacBook must be eligible for the applicable repair program and you will need a receipt for the repairs.
