Farmers rank green Crop-specific fertilizer recommendations will help increase crop productivity

The Ministry of Agriculture has targeted 1 million farmers so that they can benefit from subsidized fertilizer as part of its Plant to Feed and Create Jobs program in 2019.

This goal has grown from 700,000 as a result of the increase in the number of farmers that were covered in 2018.

A total of 300,000 tons of inorganic fertilizers and 200,000 tons of organic fertilizer worth 400 million GHc will be distributed.

"The cereal and legume crops promoted as part of the campaign have increased. We will raise the achievements in 2019, "said Agriculture Minister Owusu Afriyie Akoto, at the launch of the Planter Program for Food and Employment 2019.

Introduction of crop fertilizer

• Urea – 70 ¢ per 50 kg bag

Organic fertilizers
• Granular – 45 ¢ GH ¢ per 25 kg bag
• Compost – 20 GH ¢ per 50 kg bag
• Liquid – GH ¢ 19 per liter

Seeds
• Corn (OPV) – GH ¢ 2 per kg
• Corn (hybrid) – 3 GH ¢ per kilo
• Rice – GH ¢ 2 per kg
• Soybeans – GH ¢ 3 per kg
• Sorghum – GH ¢ 2 per kg
• Groundnut – GH ¢ 2 per kg
• Cowpea – 3 GH ¢ per kilo

As a result of cases of fertilizer smuggling, the Ministry of Agriculture decided to implement the modalities with the help of NABCO officials.

The Planting for Food and Jobs 2019 program aims to ensure food security in Ghana and instill Ghanaians' habit of farming.
