The Ghana Cocoa Council (COCOBOD) defended the government's $ 10 million audit of the cocoa routes.
Fiifi Boafo, communications manager at COCOBOD, told Citi News that these expenses were necessary.

For example, if a road were to cost $ 17 million to $ 100 million and you take the direction and you want to do it without asking any questions or asking experts to advise you, and you continue, we do not think it's a better way to do things, "he said in an interview with Eyewitness News.
Fiifi Boafo's comment responded to the minority's position in Parliament that spending was illegal.
The minority in Parliament made this statement following the announcement by the government of the restart of some cocoa road projects with a budget of 3 billion GH ¢, more than two years after the suspension of the project for verification.
Eric Opoku, a member of the ranking on the business of food, agriculture and cocoa and a member of the minority who spoke Thursday at the press conference, said;
"… What the Akufo-Addo government has managed to do is waste millions of taxpayers' money on illegally audited audits not sanctioned by the Auditor General. We are aware that $ 10 million was paid to one of these private audit firms owned by a member of the Akufo – Addo State Board and that, when the time comes we will put the scary details at the disposal of the Ghanaian people, "he said. .
He also asked why "after almost three years in government, no former Mahama administration official or single contractor has been indicted for an inflated, fraudulent or ghost road project", since Audit had to reveal a fraud.
