31, RNG – A total of 1,167 farmers registered to participate in the
Plantation Program for Export and Rural Development (PERD) in Birim Nord
District.
Beneficiaries
includes 300 women and 867 men from 25 communities in the district.
The district badembly
in its effort to implement the policy has acquired 125,000 oil palm seeds for
distribution to interested farmer groups from the district for the establishment
community nurseries.
Whiles, 236,280 poly
bags were purchased and distributed to farmer groups to improve the nursery
palm seeds.
The PRDE program is
a decentralized national tree growing program to promote rural economic growth
and improve the household incomes of rural farmers by providing
Certified Improved Seedlings, Extension Services, Business Support and
regulatory mechanisms.
The northern district of Birim
The Director General (DCE), Mr. Raymond Nana Damptey, disclosed the information when he
he addressed the first regular meeting of the fourth session of the sixth
badembly of the North District of Birim Assembly in New Abirem.
He said, 32 farmer
Groups have been trained and sensitized on the modalities covering the program.
He explained that
monitoring and extension services have been provided to ensure the success of
the program.
Mr. Damptey stated that the
the seedlings are at an advanced stage and would soon be ready for transplanting.
He indicated that
fertilizers and pesticides would be provided to the various nurseries to help
improve their yields.
