Representatives of the Jospong business group, Pureco Limited and other dignitaries set the stage for the start of the works
Kumasi and the surrounding area will soon benefit from a fully customized wastewater treatment plant worth € 13 million, known as the Kumasi Wastewater Treatment Plant (KWWTP).
The project, which will be completed in 18 months, is the result of a partnership between the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) and a Hungarian engineering technology company, Pureco Limited.
The water treatment plant is expected to create about 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region once completed.
Speaking at the grbad cutting ceremony of the project in Adagya, in the suburbs of Kumasi, JGC Executive Chairman Joseph Siaw Agyepong paid tribute to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for discharging the 30-hectare (130-acre) site for the project. saying "it is the mark of the king's commitment to the development of his people".
He added that the facility, which would be managed by Sewerage Systems Ghana Limited (SSGL), a subsidiary of JGC, would have the capacity to process 1,000 m3 of wastewater a day and turn it into compost for the agrarian community of Ghana.

Agyepong said feasibility studies have been completed to replicate the same project in Tamale, Takoradi and Tema.
He added that this center would also serve as a research center at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, among other institutions.
He badured that the collaboration with the Hungarian government would allow the JGC to procure 100 emptying trucks and 100 compacting trucks to guarantee the realization of the president's vision to clean up Ghana.
The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, in a speech read on her behalf by the Deputy Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Mr. Michael Gyato, said It was estimated that 90% of the fecal sludge from Ghana was not treated, which is why the Kumasi facility was timely and strategic.
According to her, since taking office, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made environmental sanitation a top priority, hence the creation of the Ministry of Environmental Sanitation responsible for directly supervising the sector.
She expressed the belief that the innovation between the JGC and Pureco would help curb open defecation in the communities of the Ashanti region.
Ms Dapaah expressed the Government's gratitude to the Hungarian Government and the partnership and development of relations between Ghana and Hungary.
Ghana's first Hungarian partnership
The Ambbadador of Hungary to Ghana, Mr Adrás Szab, welcomed this partnership and said that it was the first contract between a Hungarian company and a Ghanaian company aimed at bringing development to population.
The Assistant Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Ivan Joo, said the project was the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.
He congratulated the JGC and its subsidiary, the SSGL, for the initiative and urged them to continue their efforts for Ghana and its people.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, in his welcome address, urged all partners and stakeholders to give the project the attention it deserved for that. it is completed on time.
He called for more such private sector collaborations and gave badurances that President Akufo-Addo would continue to create a pleasant environment for private sector development.
The contract was signed by Mr. Agyepong and the General Manager of Pureco Limited, Mr. Balint Havarh.
The project will be jointly financed by the Hungarian Exim Bank, the Hungarian Government and the JGC.
