The outgoing Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, has, with the consultation and approval of the Police Council, promoted 1,842 people to new ranks.
According to the service, promoted staff earned their respective degrees without study leave and served for at least 12 years.
About 836 of the officers who benefited from the mass promotions, who were inspectors, were promoted to the rank of chief inspectors, 989 sergeants were promoted to the rank of inspector and 17 corporals were promoted to the rank of sergeant.
A police report seen by DAILY GUIDE stated “The sergeants general / inspectors mentioned below who have duly presented their university degree certificates are granted a special amnesty and four (4) additional credits in their ranks. This resulted in their promotion to the rank of Inspector as indicated against their names. ”

Meanwhile, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh is due to be removed on Friday July 30, 2021 at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.
State ministers and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) are expected to honor the occasion.
It should be recalled that a presidential statement signed by Eugene Arhin ordered Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh to continue his accumulated leave effective August 1, 2021.
The statement added: “Until a substantial Inspector General of Police is appointed, in accordance with the precepts of the Constitution, President Akufo-Addo has asked Police Commissioner George Akuffo Dampare, (Ph.D.) to perform the duties of Interim Inspector General of Police from Thursday, October 7, 2021.
