Health officials are investigating two confirmed cases of mumps at the Indiana University in Bloomington.
The University and the Indiana State Health Department have confirmed the cases that are investigated by state and county health officials in Monroe.
An IU spokesman said that two students who were roommates in an off-campus apartment had contracted the disease. The school issued a notice stating that health officials were working to identify anyone who may have been in close contact with the students.
Mumps is contagious and spreads by coughing and sneezing. The common symptoms are fever, headaches and painfully swollen salivary glands that can cause swollen cheeks. Most people recover in a few weeks. Epidemics are rare.
