The Ghana Education Service (GES) has revised the date of writing this year's Certificate of Basic Education Exam (BECE) for school applicants.
It is said that the examination would be written from 10 to 14 June 2019 instead of the previously announced date from 3 to 7 June.
This was in a letter signed by the Director General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, with a copy addressed to the Minister of Education, Mr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and to other personalities, including Regional and District Education Directors.
Management
"The GES management wishes to inform you that the revised date for the BECE for School Candidates is from 10 to 14 June, 2019. The revised date replaces 3-7 June, 2019 indicated the 2018/2019 school year and the primary school holidays, "says the letter to all directors of education in the metropolitan, municipal and district areas.
He further stated that "you are bound by this letter to communicate this information to all elementary school principals and to prepare students for the examination accordingly".
BES is used by the GES to select qualified candidates for high schools and technical institutes (TIs) across the country.
Private BECE
In addition, this year's BECE for Private Candidates program will be written from Monday, February 11 to Friday, February 15.
The exam would be written by 2,505 candidates, including 1,553 men and 952 women.
The Greater Accra region has the largest number of candidates, with 689, 416 men and 273 women.
The Eastern Region follows with 394 candidates, 263 men and 131 women, while 301 candidates have registered for the Ashanti region (182 men and 119 women). The central region has 269 candidates, 177 men and 92 women; Upper West Region, 204 candidates, 100 men and 104 women; Western Region, 180 men, 83 women and Volta Region, 151 candidates consisting of 97 men and 54 women.
Other
The others are the Upper East region, 114 candidates; 68 men and 46 women; Brong Ahafo Region, 73 candidates, 36 men and 37 women, as well as the Northern Region, 47 candidates, 34 men and 13 women.
Private BECE started in 2015 to give candidates who did not perform well in the school edition of the exam to improve it. This is also an opportunity for those who have never pbaded the exam to do it.
In 2015, 1,181 candidates took the initial exam, while 1,418 candidates registered in 2016, including 1,379 in 2017.
