Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), reaffirmed his commitment to "coalition talks," as appropriate.
That was in a statement he made public Thursday, in reaction to Oby Ezekwesili's decision, to step down from the party as president of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN).
Ezekwesili had announced that she was retiring from the race earlier in the day, announcing her decision regarding the consultations and the need to work with a coalition.
"Earlier in the day, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili left the presidential race. I want to thank Dr. Ezekwesili for his services to the Nigerian nation. His participation in the presidential race enriched the discourse and showed that new, committed and patriotic, non-party members of the institution emerged to offer Nigeria a new direction.
"Ms. Ezekwesili's departure from the presidential race and her renewed commitment to a progressive platform reminding Nigeria of its 20 years of corruption and incompetent leadership under the CPA and the PDP, reiterated the calls of a coalition of many Nigerians.
"I've always thought that it would take a real partnership of progressive and committed patriots to move this country forward. It's not only politically pragmatic to do it, it's the way I've always worked. Every political fight I have waged on behalf of the Nigerian people has been through coalitions and partnerships. For example, it took a coalition of the student movement, democracy organizations, progressive politicians, human rights groups and trade unions to fight the cancellation of the June 12, 1993, elections. A similar coalition was needed to force the military to give up power and restore democracy in 1999. That's why the TakeItBack movement and the African Congress of Action continue to support various efforts to create a unified platform. We have never stopped talking, collaborating and collaborating with other organizations, parties and individuals, to create a unifying platform.
"I would also like to thank my brother Fela Durotoye for his public reaffirmation of his commitment to this process. It is important for Nigerians to know that for the last four months my team and I have had discussions at various times under different auspices with the Durotoye, Moghalu, Ezekwesili and Duke teams. I reaffirm my commitment to this effort.
"We will continue to move forward with our goal of reclaiming Nigeria, recognizing that it is a vision shared by tens of millions of men and women. women of our country. United, we are standing! Said Sowore.
