Shawn Mendes dominated the Juno Awards this weekend, winning trophies in five of the six categories in which he was named, including the best artist, album, pop album and songwriter of the year.

And the Juno Fan Choice Award was awarded to Toronto-born sensation sensation Avril Lavigne.

Mendes, who was not present at the Junos, while he was participating in a world tour in Europe, appeared Sunday night in front of a nationwide Canadian television audience via a recorded performance of his single "In My Blood".

Mendes entered the Junos this year with six nominations at the front of the pack. Earlier Saturday night, at the industry awards dinner preceding the telecast, Mendes awarded four more trophies to the best artist, best single, best pop album for his third album entitled and best author- composer.

In all, six awards were given to the country's pop music awards during a nationally-televised live broadcast on Sunday night, hosted by Sarah McLachlan. The Canadian singer and songwriter has not wasted time in her opening monologue taking pictures in the United States, neighboring southern Canada, with President Donald Trump at the White House.

"You know that when you live in a peaceful and beautiful place, you get a crazy neighbor, and they start to cause all sorts of problems, like erecting strange walls, fighting with all the other neighbors and telling your daughters how they must behave while saying that they make the area even more beautiful, and that you look, you feel helpless and hope that they will be gone by 2020, "said McLachlan.

"It makes me want to swear," she added to the audience's applause from London, Ontario for the TV show. The Police's singer, Sting, also introduced David Foster, the biggest pop producer, at the Junos 2019 Humanitarian Award Ceremony.

"It's particularly humbling to introduce you, my friend Sting," Foster said, before recommending Canadians to become registered organ donors. The David Foster Foundation, a non-profit organization in Foster, helps pay for the non-medical costs faced by Canadian families with children needing life-saving organ transplants.

Also on Sunday night at Les Junos, the best group trophy was won by the Arkells from Hamilton, Ont., While Bulow won the Best Breakthrough Artist Award in 2019.

And the best country album award went to Brett Kissel for We were this song, while the R & B / soul recording of the year was picked up by Jesse Reyez. "I am you and you are me, and if there is one thing you want to hunt, do it, because you could go that far," Reyez told his fans accepting the prize.

In addition, Sunglbades at Night singer Corey Hart was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during a two-hour kudosfest broadcast on CBC. In all, 36 Juno Awards were handed out on Saturday night, including the innovative group of the year awarded to Washboard Union, and the legendary rock band Voivod seized the Juno Award for Best Hard Music / metal.

And Post Malone won the award for best international album for Beerbongs and Bentley, after being opposed to the competition against Camila Cabello Camila, Cardi B's Violation of privacy, Maroon 5's Blues red pill and Travis Scott & # 39; s Astroworld.
