The West African Examination Council (WAEC) statistics show that the WESTCE (2019 West African Certificate Examinations) has seen a marked improvement in the number of candidates who have successfully completed the mathematics (basic level) and, to some extent, integrated science courses. .

According to WAEC, 65.31% of the candidates who pbaded the exams this year had between A1 and C6 compared to the 2018 figures.

About 50.52% of the 346,094 candidates who took the exams also had between A1 and C6 in the integrated science paper.

"(Basic) mathematics recorded the most significant improvement from A1 to C6 compared to 2018 (38.33% to 65.31%). The performance of the candidates in the four main subjects is as follows:

Mathematics (core): 223,737 (31%) obtained A1-C6; 72,408 (21%) obtained D7-E8 while 46,384 (13.54%) had F9;

Integrated Science: 216,095 (63.17%) achieved A1-C6; 91,151 (27%) obtained D7-E8 while 34,825 (10.18%) had F9;

Social Studies: 257,838 (75.43%) obtained A1-C6; 52,983 (15.50%) obtained D7-E8 while 30,970 (9.06%) had F9.

A total of 2,322 (0.67%) of the registered candidates were absent from the examination.
