The Ghana Education Service (GES) said it has started discussions with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to have the 2021 West African Secondary Certificate Exam (WASSCE) postponed to September / October .
It also recommended that the 2021 Basic Education Certificate (BECE) exam take place in November.
GES chief executive Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa said the proposal was to allow students to properly prepare for exams.
“In accordance with our arrangements, we anticipate that the next reviews will take place in September / October, and we have already started discussions with WAEC on this matter,” he said at a press conference in Accra on Monday. January 4.
He added that “we need to make arrangements for scoring and publication of exam results and reopening, so if we decide October / November, it will be difficult for WAEC to publish exams early enough for admissions to have take place in January. “
“So based on our calculations, we came up with September / October, and we noticed that when we use those dates, we would have covered 1,700 hours and only miss a one hour contact period that we always can. catch up”. he added.
Professor Opoku Amankwa also expressed optimism that exit exam times will return to their normal dates by 2023.
“For the future, WASSCE will be held in July / August and BECE in September for 2022. In 2023, WASSCE will then revert to our normal date which is May / June, then BECE will follow,” he said.
