Five African countries to qualify for 2022 World Cup in Qatar

The draw for the preliminary round of Africa's qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar took place in Egypt.

According to this month's FIFA rankings, the top 24 ranked teams of the continent participated in the draw held Monday at the offices of the African Football Confederation in Cairo.

Two teams that played at the recent Africa Cup of Nations were nominated to face Burundi as they faced Tanzania.

Four other nations that participated in the tournament in Egypt will also have to take part in the preliminary round which will take place from 2 to 10 September.

Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola and Guinea-Bissau face Somalia, Eritrea, The Gambia and Sao Tome and Principe respectively.

The 14 winners of the preliminary round, spread over two rounds, and the 26 countries that have escaped the clbadification will be divided into 10 groups of four after a new draw with the first matches in March.

The winners of the group then participate in five two-stage playoffs, with the winners qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
