This is not the best week for Rapper 21 Savage. Early Sunday morning, he was arrested by ICE after being accused of exceeding the validity of his visa.
Formerly suspected of being in Atlanta, Georgia, ICE revealed that the rapper whose real name is She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph is actually a British citizen.
"Mr. Abraham-Joseph was arrested by ICE because he is illegally present in the United States and also convicted," said Brian Cox, a spokesman for ICE at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
ICE claimed that the rapper was from Great Britain and came here with his family in 2005. The family had then pbaded his work visa.
21 Savage's lawyer confirmed that his client's family had in fact exceeded the validity of their visa and that the rapper was then "without legal status, without his fault".
"It is a violation of the civil law and the continued detention of Mr. Abraham-Joseph has no other purpose than to punish him unnecessarily and to attempt to protect him." "To intimidate that he is giving up his right to fight to stay in the United States," said his attorney Charles Kuck said in a statement about the incident. "Clearly, our client is not a risk of flight because he is widely recognizable and is an important member of the music industry. Similarly, Mr. Abraham-Joseph clearly does not represent a danger to the community and, in fact, his contributions to local communities and the schools in which he grew up are examples of the kind of immigrant we want in America . "
Celebrities react
Celebrities have had a lot of mixed emotions about the possible deportation of Savage.
The controversial journalist Tomi Lahren tweeted a sarcastic response to the news.
"I have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight ICE agents ready to deport you," she tweeted, imitating her song "Bank Account."
To which rapper Cardi B responded by saying "Do not make me take my leash", referring to her previous comment that she "would walk her dog" Lahren when the government closed.
Lahren responded to Cardi, commenting on the state of the country's immigration system.
"It's something we may be able to agree on, our immigration system is down," she tweeted. "We must ensure the security of our country while ensuring that people who work hard, who contribute and who do not leave the system can LEGALLY immigrate here."
Rapper Nicki Minaj also tweeted Lahren, rising from 21 to Savage's defense.

Singer Demi Lovato also commented on the situation tweeting: "Up to now, 21 wild memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl." She has since deleted her Twitter account.
Other stars jumped into the discussion, shaming others for enlightening the situation.

Immigration status
Kuck said his client had never hidden his legacy from the government and had even applied for a U visa in 2017, according to The Huffington Post.
Kuck and his team continue to fight for the release of the rapper.
"Mr. Abraham-Joseph has children who are American citizens that he supports and is eligible for an exemption from deportation," Kuck said. "We and we will fight for his release, for his family and for his right to stay. in our country, nobody would expect less from him.
If his lawyers fail and he is deported 21, Savage could be banned from returning to the United States for up to 10 years.
