LINCOLN, Nb. – The latest influenza data from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services indicates that 24 people have died of influenza this season, including five in Lancaster County.

The data, updated Friday, indicate that of the 24 deaths, two were pediatric deaths. The average age of those who die of influenza is 69 years old. Data includes returns from September 30, 2018 to this week.

The numbers do not include another infant death that would be due to the flu in Adams County. An autopsy is scheduled this weekend to determine if the flu was the cause.

Last week, more than 4,300 people were admitted to Nebraska hospitals for flu-like symptoms, of which just over 25% had a positive result.
