QUETTA – Baluchistan's government has apparently failed to control the spread of the dengue virus, with 285 new cases occurring in Turbat, a city in the province, in the last two weeks.

According to the District Health Officer, 528 cases have been reported in the last three and a half months. The situation could worsen after a new wave of rain in many parts of Baluchistan, which worsens the appearance of mosquito-borne single-stranded RNA virus.

By 24 March, the dengue epidemic has reportedly increased in the Kech district of Baluchistan, with more than 150 cases reported in the region since January.

According to DHO Turbat, at least 150 dengue cases have been reported since January in Kech. The DHO further added that efforts were underway to control the increase of dengue virus in Kech district. Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. It is initially intermittent fevers that turn into thrombocytosis without treatment, sometimes resulting in death. It affects millions of children and adults around the world. The World Health Organization has reported that even today, there is no definitive medical cure for the disease, but early detection is the key to effective treatment.
