According to Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Botchway, the government intends to make French a second official language and, even if this has been an issue, there are good reasons to support this initiative.
The Minister, in his report YEN.com.gh, to make French a second language in Ghana would go a long way towards improving regional integration.
"We believe that the teaching and deep learning of French will benefit Ghana because we are bordered by three French-speaking countries; namely Togo, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast ", she says.
On Twitter and Facebook, Ghanaians have offered criticism or support for the government's intentions. Anti-government rhetoric is directed only by the musician Okyeame Kwame.
But YEN.com.gh offers a few points to the effect that this might not be a bad idea.

1. The creation of a clbad of international language speakers can stimulate the economy
Imagine a 10-year plan to train about 500,000 people who speak and write French. It's 500,000 people whose horizons have been expanded and are ready to work with multinational organizations.
Languages are more than just a case of identity. Languages are opportunities in a world that is rapidly becoming small with globalization.
2. Making French an official language will not end support for local languages
Those who say they do not speak French in Ghana have said that some local languages could be brought to this status.
The government is already broadcasting public service and information in local languages. The government remains the main support for the Bureau of Languages' research in local languages.
The government would then seek to add French to the languages used for these purposes. To say that you do not want French because it would undermine local languages is a mediocre argument.

3. Make French an official language, it is also African unity
There are 26 French speaking countries in Africa, against a few who speak Arabic, Swahili and Portuguese. Any future discussion of how Africa needs to unite can not forget that common features need to be established.
Ghanaians continue to tell the world that we were the first black African country to be independent of colonial rule. In a way, we think we need to lead the pan-African charge.
However, our people can not speak the language spoken by hundreds of millions of other Africans. How can we then lead?
