Three people are tried by the district court of Ho district for illegal possession of three foreign pistols and 40 9mm cartridges, concealed in a fake compartment of a Toyota Corolla registered AC 1621-18.
The suspects are; Nervis Otu Laryea, 33, Ebenezer Osei, 38, and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, 37.
They were stopped by the Rapid Deployment Force patrol team on July 6 on the Kpando-Have road. Besides the guns, the suspects were found with two Toshiba laptops and 27 smartphones tagged with prices.
The 27 smartphones with two hoodies were discovered in suspect Muntaka Mubarak’s bag, which he claims to have obtained from a stranger in Alavanyo. However, he was unable to produce receipts covering the phones.
Volta Regional Commander DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng explained that suspects Nervis Otu Laryea and Ebenezer Osei claimed they did not know suspect Mohammed Muntaka, but only offered to take him on their return. from Alavanyo.
He said suspect Ebenezer Osei explained that he traveled to Alavanyo for spiritual assistance in his business.
“Further investigation revealed that the Toyota Corolla registered AC 1621-18 was also acquired by suspect Nervis Otu Laryea in Afienya from a Togolese, without the documents,” he added.
DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng assured the public of the police’s commitment to fighting crime and called for healthy collaboration to enable the police to pick up disbelievers in society.
The suspects were fired to continue assisting police with their investigations and asked to reappear on July 22, 2021.
