Bawumia Sleokd Utility Vehicle Strikes President's Convoy on Takoradi-Cape-Coast Highway

The three members of the security forces injured in the accident involving the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, were released after being treated at the Cape Coast Regional Hospital.

The three people in the convoy traveling with Vice President Saturday suffered various types of injuries. Two in the neck and the shoulder respectively. The third, whose case was more critical, was released after receiving infusions on Sunday morning.

The convoy of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, was involved Saturday in a deadly road accident in Asemasa, near Beposo, on the road from Takoradi to Cape Coast, as he was returning from the western region.

Some security people with him and pbadengers from the other vehicle were injured and transported to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital.

Dr. Bawumia however managed to escape unscathed.

A statement from the vice president's office revealed that the driver of a commercial vehicle involved in the crash had died.

"Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia escaped unscathed from a car accident on Saturday, February 16, 2019," the statement said.

He added: "The driver of a utility vehicle that has also been involved in the accident has unfortunately pbaded, however."

The Bawumia convoy was involved in a similar accident on the Yendi-Tamale road in December 2018.
