3 inmates on more than 4,000 bags of fertilizer | criminality

Three people, including a director of agriculture, were arrested in the Sunyani West district of Bono region for stealing 4,000 bags of fertilizer for Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ). .

It is Gilbert Sonkpi, District Agricultural Director; Owusu Banahene, District Manager for the PFJ; and a trader, Alberta Adzade.

The District General Director (DCE) of the region, Martin Adjei, ordered their arrest Thursday after an Accra audit team from the Ministry of Food and Food Administration. Agriculture (MoFA) involved the three people.

The DCE later confirmed the news to DAILY GUIDE, claiming that the case was before the Sunyani municipal police.

He added that the police were investigating the circumstances in which more than 4,000 bags of fertilizer for the PFJ had disappeared from a rented Ghana Cocoa Board warehouse in Asufufu, a suburb of Sunyani.

As part of the ongoing PFJ program audit by a MoFA task force, the team leader informed the team leader that 4098 fertilizer bags had disappeared. from the warehouse and that the suspects had not been able to explain why the agrochemicals were untraceable.

According to the DCE, the suspects misinformed the audit team that it had arrived at the arrival of the team in the district, adding "but knowing what to do, the team continued its work as planned ".

He said: "The team leader eventually found my number and called me in the back of the night to inform me. The next day, I met with officials of the badembly, including the District Coordination Director, Philip Baaza, the District Finance Officer, among other senior officials, and we decided to hand them over to the police. even before the end of the team's work.

He said: "There will be no compromise and once it is proven that they are guilty, we will prosecute them".

Chief Inspector Augustine Kinsley Oppong, spokesperson for the regional police, later confirmed that police were investigating the case.
