Suspected suspects in detention
Three alleged looters, taken in possession of human skeletons, are being tried by the Goaso District Court in the Ahafo region.
It turned out that their possession belonged to the late mother of the Nifahene of Abuom, who had been buried for years.
Farmers Yaw Yiredie, 35, and Isaac Berko, 34, and 35-year-old favorite priest Peter Kor, were charged with four counts including obstructing the burial a deceased person and possession of parts of the human body.
The skeletons, allegedly told to the police by the bad priest, were reduced to powder and used for rituals to strengthen the people who went to his sanctuary to protect themselves.
The trio was also charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and steal.
They were placed in custody to reappear on Thursday, August 8, 2019.
Their plea was not upheld at their first court appearance last Wednesday.
According to the police, it is the vigilance of the inhabitants of the community that brought to light the activities of the trio.

According to the police, around 23:30. On Saturday, July 20, 2019, residents of Abuom, in the southern district of Asunafo, in the Ahafo region, arrested Yaw Yiredie and Isaac Berko on the outskirts of the city in possession of A bag containing human skeletons and handed them to the police.
When the two were interrogated, they said they were sending the body parts to Kor, the favorite priest, in Kokooso.
The police arrested Kor, but new investigations revealed that Berko and Yiredie had discovered the grave at Abuom's Presbyterian cemetery to recover the deceased's bones.
According to the police, it was also established that the grave was that of the mother of Nifahene of Abuom, buried years before.
Kor reportedly told the police that they had powdered human bones and used them for rituals to fortify people going to his shrine.
He added that the powder was also used to treat various ailments.
Reburial
Meanwhile, the court ordered the police to hand over the skeletons to the family to re-bury them.
Police commander of the southern district of Asunafo told the Daily Graphic that police were waiting to take the family's testimony before the skeletons were released for a new burial.
