Three people in custody in Walewale in the North East region have tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The three were part of a group of 10 who were preparing to be transferred to Tamale prisons when a pre-departure COVID-19 test was performed on them and the result confirmed all three positive cases.
They have since been quarantined in new police cells.
Northeast Regional Police Officer Superintendent Reuben Dugah, who confirmed this to Online chart said inmates were responding to treatment at the isolation center.
The West Mamprusi Municipality COVID 19 team has since started contact tracing of people and officers who have had contact with the said detainees to have their samples taken for testing.
He explained that the COVID-19 team at the Walewale Health Directorate last week took samples from ten inmates in the cell for an on-demand COVID-19 test and that the results revealed that three of them were positive for COVID-19.
He said the cell had since been closed for fumigation while inmates were transferred to different cells.
