Some lucky audiences will have the opportunity to see the next edition of DC Shazam! film in a rather unique way.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming DC Extended Universe film will be one of six titles released in ScreenX format. The unique type of projection format allows the audience to see a movie in a 270-degree panoramic format.
The agreement between the South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX and Warner Bros. Pictures will also include The curse of La Llorona and Godzilla: the king of monsters. Three more titles are expected to be announced later this year.
"This will build on the success of ScreenX's commitments to global success Rampage, The Meg, The Nun, Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald and AquamanCJ 4DPLEX said in a statement.
"Warner Bros. Pictures continues to be a strong supporter and partner of ScreenX's filmmaking experience, and we are thrilled to expand this partnership with the release of six titles from their upcoming film lineup,"
"As we look to the future, we are excited to bring new experiences to our audiences and continue to expand our partnerships to exploit innovative formats such as ScreenX." Thomas Molter, Head of International Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures, added. "As a society, we are always looking to create unprecedented theatrical experiences for moviegoers, and CJ 4DPLEX is working with us to present great stories in new ways."
Over the past year, ScreenX has experienced significant growth, with 195 auditoriums showcasing technology in 62 different countries.
Shazam! is about to bring to life a larger-than-life superhero tale, which is why it is presented in this new format. The film will follow Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a child who is given the opportunity to transform into an adult superhero (played by Zachary Levi) when he utters a magic word.
"He's trying to find his family … his mother is still there," director David F. Sandberg told ComicBook.com last year. "But once he's got those powers, he's just trying to figure out what to do with them and how it works."
The film, which also includes Jack Dylan Grazer and Mark Strong, will be a unique rendition of the superhero genre, as well as the larger DC extended universe.
"It's such a unique character, and it's the wish of a child who will become an adult superhero, something we have never seen before," Sandberg said in another interview. "So, it's just a really fun movie that has its own style."
