The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, announced that Sefwi Wiawso had been chosen as the capital of the new West-North region.

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Friday, February 15, 2019 by presenting Constitutional Instrument 117 (C.I. 117) to a delegation from the West-North region, officially signifying the creation of the region.

Addressing the meeting, the President said that the creation of the West-North region is the culmination of unrest and pleas of northern residents of the region for about 40 years .

When creating the North-West region, President Akufo-Addo informed residents of Aowin, Bia East, Bia West, Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Bodi, Juabeso municipalities and districts.
