The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has awarded cash prizes to five distinguished students who have achieved excellent results in the WASSCE (West African Certificate School Certificate) 2018 exam.
At the event on March 13, 2019, Wilhermina Opoku, a former student of Wesley Girls High School, won the Best Student Award.
The others, Sarpong Brago Afrifa, a former student at Yaa Asantewaa High School and Imelda Naa Ayorkor Adjei, formerly of Wesley Girls High School, were ranked second and third respectively.
Davina Seyram Gbedy, a former student of Wesley Girls High School, and Dennis Acquah, formerly of St. Augustine's College, were named best students respectively in arts and commerce.

The criteria for selecting the best candidates were that candidates must obtain A1 in at least eight subjects.
Qualified candidates were considered for awards at the national level and also joined other member countries, namely The Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, to compete for the awards. international awards.

Two of the students made Ghana proud by placing second and third internationally.
The five winners were selected from 316,980 candidates who pbaded exams in various subjects at the upper secondary level in 2018.
Meanwhile, WAEC has revealed that it will adopt different strategies to tackle examination errors.

According to WAEC, all candidates will have their fingerprints and will be biometrically verified.
This is to ensure that no students participating in WASSCE are imitated.
